There is something interesting I learned about shopping.
Something that can be easily exploited to generate more money.
It is a psychological concept called the hedonic treadmill.
The Shopping Circle
To explain this concept better, you need to think a little bit.
Think about the last time you bought something new.
It doesn’t matter what.
Phone, shoes, cosmetics.
This is not important.
The important part is if you remember how happy you felt.
That happy feeling was amazing!
But after a few days or weeks, that feeling faded.
The new thing didn't feel so special anymore.
This happens to everyone.
We buy something new, feel happy, and then the happiness goes away.
We want that happy feeling back, so we buy something else.
It's like being on a treadmill - we keep running but stay in the same place.
How I Use This in My Business
I learned about this pattern, and now I use it to sell more things in my online stores.
I send emails about new products every week
I create special deals that only last for one day
I show people what's trending right now
I remind people about items they looked at before
This works really well!
In fact, this works so well, that most online retailers use it.
Why This is Important to You
Our brains are wired to chase new things.
You see something you want
You buy it and feel really good
The good feeling starts to fade
You start looking for something new to buy
The cycle starts all over
You make more money when people keep buying things.
And let’s be honest.
At this moment, people don't just buy things because they need them.
They buy things because:
They want to feel happy
They want to feel special
They want to fit in with others
They get bored with their old stuff
How to Exploit It
Now you should plan your business around these ideas.
You:
Create excitement about new products
Make people feel special when they buy
Show them new things every week
Keep prices low enough so they can buy often
People love feeling good.
When they buy something from your store, they get that good feeling.
When the feeling goes away, they come back for more.
It's like serving ice cream - people always want another scoop!
Now you know one of the seller's secrets!
People will always want to buy new things. It's just how our brains work. I use this knowledge to make my stores better and keep my customers happy.
